Monday's Blog

Today was a busy day in the yard. The yard is now full which is very good news. On Saturday we went to Maryville Stables to jump in the Autumn league. Siobhan brought her horse for both Siobhan's and the horse's first ever show. The mare delt very well with the occasion as did Siobhan giving a very professional ride and I think both horse and rider learned a lot from it. I competed three horses, I rode Liz O' Sullivan's La Dolce Vita in the metre class. I have been training Liz all year and she has now started working with me at home in the yard.

End of Dublin Horse Show

Today was the final day of the horse show. The day began early for me as I was helping my girlfriend Martha as she was competing in the 5yr old final. Having walked the course I felt it would be difficult to ride a clear round. It was a big course and extremely spooky for the horses to jump in the main arena. Martha was unlucky to have 4 faults yet happy that the horse performed so well. We packed up after this and loaded the horses before heading home back to Waterfall Stud Farm.

Dublin Horse Show

Today was the second and last qualifier for the 8 year old and over championship with Kimberlite. Class started at half 8 so I was up at 6 o clock to feed. I then walked the course which was in the main arena. Most of the fences were standing at 1.45m and some were even bigger. Due to Cian O' Connors withdrawal I was first to go in the class so I had the disadvantage of not being able to watch any rider jump the course. Cantering into the main arena was an amazing feeling. I finished up with 12 faults but was happy with round and the way the horse performed.

Dublin Horse Show

Today was a busy day at the yard as the final preparations were done for the Dublin Horse Show. 'Kimberlite' will be competing in the 8yr old and over class on Wednesday and Friday. 'Skips' (Kimberlite) is in good form at the moment so I am hoping for a good week in Dublin. My girlfriend Martha Healy is competing 'La Bella Stella' in the 5yr old class so we will travel together. Dublin is always a fantastic show and I am looking forward to watching the International horses compete there.

Horses show promise

Today was a good day in the yard. I spent the morning schooling the horses for the show in Limerick next Saturday. All the horses jumped well and look in good form for the weekend.

Spent the afternoon teaching students Siobhán and Erin. Siobhán's horse is at the beginning of her jumping career and improved a lot since our last school. Erin's pony is continuing to improve every day we school him.

Foals Doing Well

With Waterfall Stud's final foal for 2009 now safely on the ground, we are watching their progress carefully. All are 'quality' foals and are thriving. Enigma's first foal was born last week and is special as it is by Jack Of Diamonds, the stallion I rode at his Approval Test. A filly, to be called WSF Eagle, she is a lovely mover. I hope she jumps as well as her parents when the time comes!
